CAMP PENDLETON, CA (Nov. 09, 2016) – A disabled Marine veteran completed his cross-country journey when he stepped foot on the parade deck his old unit (3rd Amphibian Assault Battalion.)
Larry Hinkle started his journey on April 3rd from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. April 3rd is the day 1stSgt Ed Smith was hit and would later succumb to his wounds. Each year, Larry steps off in his honor as well as the men and women who have serve our communities and great nation. Hinkle walked 2,640 miles, fed over 1,000 people at VA Hospitals, Outpatient Clinics, VA State Nursing Homes, Fire Stations, Police Departments, Sheriff Departments,Salvation Army locations and passed out over 400 gift cards.
Hinkle is dead set on honoring the state that he’s so proud to be born and raised in. This year, he will set out on a 16 city tour across the Great State Of Texas shelling out the same type of love to our brothers and sisters. Throughout the “The Hump”, Hinkle will be stopping by VA facilities, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), police and sheriff’s departments, fire stations and state nursing homes to connect with veterans/ first responders and share their stories.
Hinkle hopes to create awareness about the problems veterans face every day, especially the disabled. He will also be providing gift cards to the first responders and let them know what their service means to the community as he walks throughout Texas over the summer.
